Microsoft updates Windows 11 minimum processor requirements guidance for AI PC support
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Microsoft, sometime in March earlier this year, quietly updated the Windows 11 minimum system requirements page. With the update, the company has tried to clarify the processor requirements that users need to look out for if they are eyeing a Copilot+ PC. After all, Microsoft does officially recommend buying a new system, and especially its Copilot+ AI PCs for the best Windows experience, and For those who may not be in the loop with some of the recent developments, Microsoft has a new range of Windows PCs dubbed "Copilot+ PCs" that are more geared towards processing AI tasks. Windows 11 24H2 is packed with several AI features which were initially limited to only Qualcomm Snapdragon X chips but now Intel and AMD systems have them too; and the list of features keeps growing with new additions at regular intervals. While the baseline Windows 11 requirements have not changed from what they were originally, Microsoft has published a new set of requirements specifically for Copilot+ PCs. Last year, the company made it clear that for a system to qualify as a Copilot+ AI PC, it needed to deliver more than 40 NPU TOPS (trillion operations per second). The NPU is essentially a dedicated AI neural processor meant to hardware-accelerate AI and ML tasks and Microsoft thinks Windows 11 24H2 is too hard for a system without this kind of power. Aside from the NPU TOPS requirement, Microsoft has also raised the RAM requirement for its AI PCs to a minimum of 16 GB and has made 256 GB of fast storage like SSD or UFS mandatory. In the recently updated minimum requirements page for Windows 11, Microsoft also added helpful links to the processors from AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm, respectively, that are Copilot+ PC-ready. The previous version of the page read: "Copilot+ PCs are a class of Windows 11 devices that are powered by a neural processing unit (NPU) capable of performing 40+ trillion operations per second (TOPS). An NPU is a specialised computer chip for AI-intensive processes like real-time translations and image generation." For most scenarios, customers will need to acquire new hardware to run Copilot+ PCs experiences. In addition to the above minimum system requirements for Windows 11, hardware for Copilot+ PCs must include the following: Processor: A compatible processor or System on a Chip (SoC). This currently includes the Snapdragon® X Plus and the Snapdragon® X Elite. We will update this list periodically as more options become available. RAM: 16 GB DDR5/LPDDR5 Storage: 256 GB SSD/UFS" The updated page now says: "Copilot+ PCs are a new class of Windows 11 AI PCs that are powered by a turbocharged neural processing unit (NPU)—a specialised computer chip for AI-intensive processes like real-time translations and image generation— that can perform more than 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS)." To run unique Copilot+ PC experiences, customers will need to acquire new hardware. In addition to the minimum system requirements for Windows 11, Copilot+ PCs must include the following: Processor: A compatible processor or System on a Chip (SoC) with an NPU capable of performing 40+ TOPS. This currently includes: AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 series Intel® Core™ Ultra 200V series Snapdragon® X series RAM: 16 GB DDR5/LPDDR5 Storage: 256 GB SSD/UFS The change should be a helpful one though it would have been even better had Microsoft begun maintaining separate support pages for the list of compatible Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm chips, similar to what it does for the general OS CPU requirements. The last meaningful update for that was made in February this year. The new addition of CPUs and links is not the only helpful requirement-related change Microsoft has made lately. The company also made a big update regarding USB-C in order to improve and boost Windows 11 support for the protocol. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. You will soon be able to complain about something to Windows 11 and it will fix it for you
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Microsoft recently launched a set of big AI-powered features for Copilot+ PCs, like the just-announced Surface Pro 12-inch and the Surface Laptop 13-inch. Today, the company is expanding what AI can do in its operating system, offering users an easier way to find and tweak various Windows settings, more improvements to Windows Search, and new actions in the recently launched Click to Do. The biggest change is an AI agent in the Settings app. The idea is very simple: you click the search box and explain in natural language what you would like to change. The request should not necessarily be very direct. For example, you can complain about something, like "my mouse pointer is too small," and the Settings app will show you a quick solution and links to related settings. The Settings app on Copilot+ PCs already features an improved search that can understand human language. Now, Microsoft is taking it to a new level by allowing AI to take action on your behalf when troubleshooting or customizing your computer (with your permission, of course). The improved Settings app with an AI agent will first be available to Windows Insiders with Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon processors. Later, Microsoft will expand it to Copilot+ PCs with Intel and AMD chips. At launch, only the English language will be supported. Windows Search is also getting some much-needed improvements. Later this month, Windows Insiders will get to try a new build with Windows Search being able to find various Windows settings and install apps from the Microsoft Store. Better search is also coming to the Photos app so that you can find specific photos more easily. New features for Click to Do include the ability to ask Copilot to perform actions on your text or photos and launch Reading Coach or Immersive Reader. Click to Do will also be able to schedule a meeting or launch a Teams chat from an email. Finally, Microsoft is bringing Copilot to the Microsoft Store. The AI Hub now features the latest features on Copilot+ PCs, and you can ask Copilot questions about apps, games, recommendations, and more. Microsoft is also adding new product badges to make it easier for users to understand which apps have AI-powered experiences or which apps are created exclusively for Copilot+ PCs. These new features will first be available in the Windows Insider program before being released to all users. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Microsoft unveils new AI agents that can modify Windows settings
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Today, Microsoft announced new Windows experiences for Copilot+ PCs, including AI agents that will make changing settings on your Windows computer easier. The company says users will be able to use these new agents to find settings they want to change using natural language quickly, and even instruct them to do it without any user involvement beyond the prompt. "We set out to solve one of the most common frustrations we hear – finding and changing settings on your PC – using the power of agents. An agent uses on device AI to understand your intent and with your permission, automate and execute tasks," said Navjot Virk, CVP of Windows Experiences. "With this update to Settings, you will be able to simply describe what you need help with like, 'how to control my PC by voice' or 'my mouse pointer is too small' and the agent will recommend the right steps you can take to address the issue. With your permission and at your initiation, it can even complete the actions to change your settings on your behalf." This experience will only be available for English speakers first and will start rolling out to Windows Insiders on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs and later to those using AMD- and Intel-powered devices. Redmond is also improving Windows search and adding more Click to Do text and image actions, such as Schedule a meeting with Teams, Send a message with Teams, Ask M365 Copilot, Convert to table with Excel, and Draft with Copilot in Word. Several new actions, including Ask Copilot, Practice in Reading Coach, and Read with Immersive Reader, are already available to Windows Insiders. Photos, Paint, and the Snipping Tool get multiple new features on Copilot+ PCs designed to simplify editing and creating images. These include Photos Relight for adding dynamic lighting controls to pictures, Paint Sticker Generator for creating digital stickers via text prompts, Paint Object Select to select and instantly edit specific elements on the canvas, and Snipping Tool Perfect Screenshot for adjusting the capture area and removing the need for post-capture cropping. Snipping Tool is also getting some new capture tools, which will help extract text directly from images and pick color values from any element on the screen. Over the next few weeks, Microsoft will start rolling out more Windows 11 experiences for all Windows 11 Insiders, such as a phone companion for the Start menu, AI actions in File Explorer that will help edit images and summarize content, and a new write function in Notepad that will allow creating text from a prompt. In March, Microsoft announced that it started testing a Snipping Tool "Draw & Hold" feature that helps draw perfect shapes and an AI-powered text summarization feature in Notepad. Microsoft also added a text rewriting tool to Notepad in November, dubbed "Rewrite" and previously known as CoWriter. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Microsoft lifts Snapdragon exclusivity on some of the best Copilot+ PC features
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Staggered feature releases make me ask "what even is a Copilot+ PC?" Microsoft has a big update for Copilot+ PCs powered by Intel or AMD processors. Several features previously exclusive to Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon chips inside are rolling out to the rest of the Copilot+ PC family. Live Captions, Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator are among the features on the way to Copilot+ PCs with either AMD Ryzen AI 300 series or Intel Core Ultra 200V chips. Until recently, those experiences have been exclusive to Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs like the Surface Pro 11. Several features improve accessibility and make communication easier. Live Captions offers real-time translation for audio and video content ranging from conference calls to podcasts. Other features, such as Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator focus on content creation. Overall, Copilot+ PCs will be more capable and accessible thanks to the new features. Some of the experiences are already available for Copilot+ PCs with Intel or AMD processors through the March 2025 Windows non-security preview update. Microsoft will roll out the features gradually to more PCs over the coming month. Staggered feature releases 'Semantic Search' is another new feature that will be exclusive to Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon chips at first. (Image credit: Future | Daniel Rubino) The rollout of the new features to Copilot+ PCs is good news, but it also flags up inconsistency across the Copilot+ PC brand. The Copilot+ PC launch was far from smooth. Our Senior Editor Zac Bowden called it a "total disaster." Many are still confused about Copilot and the various devices and services that include that name. Several tools by the tech giant are called Copilot. There are also Copilot+ PCs and Copilot Pro knocking about. Many items and services that feature the word "Copilot" are separate or largely unrelated, apart from the fact that they all involve AI in some capacity. For example, you can run Copilot on non-Copilot+ PCs without any issues. The fact that the best AI PCs are not all Copilot+ PCs hurts Microsoft's messaging as well. But perhaps the most confusing aspect is that there are several types of Copilot+ PCs that do not have the same features. Live Captions, Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator were all exclusive to Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs until today's announcement. Microsoft's highly anticipated "Semantic Search" is in testing among Insiders but is also exclusive to Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs for now. Even in today's blog post about AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs getting previously Snapdragon exclusive features, Microsoft announced a new feature that, you guessed it, is exclusive to Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs for now. "We’re also excited to introduce unique Voice Access capabilities for Copilot+ PCs, which are now available on Snapdragon X Series-powered devices and will roll out to others later this year," said Microsoft. Voice Access simplifies PC control with your voice. The feature lets you use natural language to input commands. It looks like a great feature. It's just a shame it's locked behind a certain chip architecture at the moment. Honestly, at this point I have to ask, "what even is a Copilot+ PC?" There are some things that people can guarantee a Copilot+ PC will have regardless of the chip inside. All Copilot+ PCs have an NPU, for example. But what you can do with those NPUs differs depending on if your Copilot+ PC has a Snapdragon chip or is powered by Intel or AMD. Maybe Microsoft should have a tiered system for Copilot+ PCs. Perhaps Copilot -, Copilot+, and Copilot². Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Thank you for appreciating my time and effort posting news every day for many years. CES 2025 is kicking off, and a tidal wave of PC announcements is right around the corner. Multiple manufacturers are getting ready to ship more Copilot+ PCs with AI-powered features, and Microsoft is feeling confident that this year will be a turning point for Windows 11. In a newly published blog post, Microsoft says 2025 is "the year of Windows 11 PC refresh." The company expects millions of users to migrate to Windows 11 and the newly launched Copilot+ PCs with AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm processors. However, the biggest push to Windows 11 is, of course, the end of Windows 10 support, which is still on schedule for October 14, 2025. While some businesses and customers will remain on Windows 10 and use the Extended Security Program to get more support for the aging OS, Microsoft and analysts anticipate a big wave of updates to Windows 11. The software giant cites IDC's June 2024 report predicting that nearly 80% of businesses will update their PCs by the end of 2025 and that 70% of customers will update their PCs in the next two years. In 2025, Microsoft promises to "continue to advance the category" and make AI accessible to more users. Microsoft says users can expect more AI-powered features (for example, Recall and Click to Do), security improvements, and other enhancements to the functionality of the operating system. Chip manufacturers, on the other hand, will deliver better performance and improved battery life. Finally, users will get to choose from a wide range of devices with "a price for everyone." Copilot+ PCs with AMD and Intel processor buoy the platform and give the platform devices without app compatibility questions. New Copilot+ PCs performance details just dropped. Microsoft updated a post this week that compares Copilot+ PCs to MacBooks and that explains how Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon processors stack up against other systems. The Copilot+ PC performance details webpage has been around for months, but it only discussed Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs until recently. It now shows details about Copilot+ PCs with Intel and AMD chips as well. Microsoft has an uphill battle when it comes to selling Copilot+ PCs. Many people don't know what a Copilot+ PC even is, and the fact that the best AI PCs and the best Copilot+ PCs roundups aren't identical lists doesn't clear things up. Additionally, Copilot+ PCs were exclusively Snapdragon PCs for much of this year, but the Copilot+ PC designation now refers to some Intel and AMD devices as well. Even that rollout can be confusing to everyday users since some features are only in testing for Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs. Only had a 0.8% market share of PCs sold in Q3 of 2024 and just 720,000 PCs sold in that quarter had Snapdragon X chips. Things will likely get better in that category as new chips come out and more app developers embrace Arm computing, but the rollout of Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs should buoy the entire Copilot+ PC platform significantly. AMD and Intel Copilot+ PCs The ASUS Zenbook S 14 is among the first Copilot+ PCs to run on a processor not from Qualcomm. (Image credit: Ben Wilson | Windows Central) For much of this year, all Copilot+ PCs ran on Arm processors such as the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus. Our list of the best Arm laptops includes flagship devices such as the Surface Laptop 7, Surface Pro 11, and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge. But even the best Arm PC is still an Arm PC. I don't mean that as an insult as much as to highlight that at the moment there are still some people, such as gamers, who won't consider Arm PCs (more on the app situation later). Luckily for those that need an AMD or Intel chip, Copilot+ PCs with non-Snapdragon processors started shipping in the second half of 2024. Our first impressions of the ASUS Zenbook S 14 were positive. That PC runs on an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processor. In 2025 we'll see many more Copilot+ PCs running on Intel or AMD processors. Those devices should help the Copilot+ PC platform grow. Apps on Windows 11 on Arm Google Chrome is one of many big-name apps to now have native Arm versions. (Image credit: Future) One of the biggest concerns people have with PCs powered by Arm processors is app compatibility. Since those systems run Windows 11 on Arm, some apps will not run natively. Microsoft's Prism emulation technology closes the gap some, but there are apps that still do run or run well on Windows 11 on Arm. That being said, the list of the best native Windows on Arm apps includes many popular apps and grows by the month. Since Windows has been around for decades and has excellent backward compatibility, there are tens of millions of PC apps. The vast majority of those have not been recompiled to run natively on Arm PCs. While that number may seem staggering, many people use a relatively short list of core apps. Heck, I know people that literally only use their web browser and Office. According to Microsoft, over 93% of total minutes spent in apps are in apps compatible with Arm devices. 87% of total app minutes are spent in apps with native Arm versions (though so may not be using the native version). Microsoft highlighted that emulated apps on devices running on a Snapdragon X Elite are over 2x faster than Windows on Arm devices from the previous generation. Those figures are noteworthy and suggest that many can use Arm-based PCs for everyday computing, but they still indicate a gap in the platform. If one out of every 10 apps you use is not native to Arm, you may not even look at a PC with an Arm chip inside. I agree with Microsoft that emulated apps are better than ever, but they're still not native. And as mentioned above, there are some apps that don't work on Windows on Arm at all. Copilot+ PC findings Microsoft tested performance, battery life, and application capabilities of Copilot+ PCs throughout the year. One round of testing wrapped up in May 2024 and then another round concluded in September 2024 following the release of Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs. That later round of testing also allowed Microsoft to stack Copilot+ PCs against MacBooks running macOS Sequoia. Notably, the comparisons stack Copilot+ PCs against M3 MacBooks since M4 MacBooks did not ship until November 2024. Below are all the claims listed by Microsoft: Performance Top Copilot+ PCs are up to 58% faster than MacBook Air M3 Copilot+ PCs are up to 5 times faster than the most popular 5 year old Windows PCs Microsoft is preparing a second wave of Copilot+ PCs in August
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
The new Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, and other devices with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X processors are about to hit store shelves later this month. The initial number of devices is a bit limited, but do not fret—more ARM-powered Windows PCs are coming later this Summer. WinFuture reports that Microsoft, Qualcomm, and PC manufacturers are already preparing to launch a second wave of Copilot+ PCs somewhere in August or early September of the current year. The main focus of the next wave of Copilot+ PCs will be the business segment. For now, all Snapdragon X-powered computers cater to “regular customers,” with Microsoft offering business editions of its Surface devices with “traditional” Intel chips. Later this Summer, we should see the first Copilot+ PCs for commercial customers. Some of those business-oriented PCs could arrive in new device form factors. At Computex 2024, Qualcomm showed a teaser of what is to come, which included not just tablets and laptops but also mini-PCs and all-in-ones. While the appeal of Copilot+ PC is clear to your average Joe, Microsoft will have to try harder to convince businesses that Windows on ARM is now a real thing that is worth investing in. These computers promise fantastic battery life, advanced AI features (some are a bit controversial), and solid performance. However, app compatibility is still a big question even despite Microsoft’s big promises in its reworked app emulation. Still, popular developers are joining or have already joined the initiative with their ARM-optimized applications, so the app gap is slowly disappearing. It will be interesting to see the first Copilot+ PCs for business customers and how Microsoft will promote them against “traditional” x86 devices. Of course, Intel and AMD are not going to sit and watch Qualcomm steal their market; they are preparing their chips with NPUs and features that should rival the best of what Qualcomm currently offers. Here are the exclusive features you get with Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
June 18, 2024, marked the launch of the first wave of Copilot+ PCs, a new generation of Windows 11 computers powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X Series processors. These devices promise a lot: improved efficiency, better battery life, and exclusive features. If you plan to buy a Copilot+ PC, here is everything you will get that is not available to peasants with Intel and AMD-based non-Copilot+ computers. Those two companies are also preparing their own Copilpt+ PC-ready chips in the form of Lunar Lake and Ryzen AI 300 series, but for now, all the features below are only available on the new Windows on ARM devices. Cocreator in Paint This feature makes boring AI image generation slightly more personal. You can start doodling on the canvas in Paint and Cocreator will harness the power of AI to complement your drawing with more details. It also applies your edits, adjusting the output in real-time. Note that Cocreator requires signing in with a Microsoft Account. Image Restyle and Creator This part of the Microsoft Photos app applies AI-based filters to your photos. You can pick one of the pre-built filters or describe your own using text prompts. Like Cocreator in Paint, Image Restyle requires a Microsoft Account. Live Captions and Translate Copilot+ PCs can use their Neural Processing Units to process any audio going through your computer and generate live captions or translate them from 44 languages to English (other languages are not yet supported). You can try Live Captions by enabling the feature from the Start menu and listening to any foreign-language audio. Windows Studio Effects These effects can help you look best during video calls or recording videos. You can apply background blur, reduce surrounding noise, use various filters, adjust lights, correct eye contact (good when reading from a teleprompter), and more. You can preview Windows Studio Effects from the Quick Settings menu in the notification area. Recall Recall is the only feature that is not available today. It was supposed to be the biggest thing, but its misfired launch and privacy issues forced Microsoft to delay Recall and get back to the drawing board. In a nutshell, Recall is a feature that gives your computer photographic memory - it literally snapshots everything you do on your computer so you can rewind at any time and search for things using natural language. The first Copilot+ PCs include models from Microsoft itself (the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7), Samsung, ASUS, Lenovo, and more. You can learn more about the exclusive Copilot+ PC features in a post on the official Windows Blog. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Microsoft is making yet another change to its controversial Recall feature for Windows. The company has updated its blog post today that it first published on June 7, revealing that Recall will not be a part of the launch of the Windows 11 Copilot+ PC laptops with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chips on June 18. Here is the full update from the blog post: Microsoft first announced Recall alongside its Copilot+ PCs announcement with a lot of fanfare on May 20. The company stated Recall took "images of your active screen every few seconds" so that users could find anything they did on their PC using search. However, many people sounded alarms that Recall could be a huge security risk, with some cybersecurity experts offering evidence that hackers could easily break into a PC with the feature enabled and then use it to take any info on your PC. After several days of silence, Microsoft announced on June 7 it would make the Recall experience an opt-in feature and also require the use of Windows Hello authentication to actually access Recall. Tonight's outright delay in Recall's release shows Microsoft may not feel the feature is ready for even a "preview" experience for Copilot+ PC owners at this stage. First Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs arrive to buyers and initial tests do not look very good
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
A Reddit user under the name cponica23 has already received their first Copilot+ PC, namely the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge with the Snapdragon X Elite processor. The happy owner took some time to perform initial tests and benchmarks, and the result turned out to be interesting, if not underwhelming. When Qualcomm showcased its new shiny chips for Windows PCs, it promised quite impressive results in Geekbench, such as about 3,000 in single-core and over 15,000 in multi-core. In reality, the tested model running with the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 scored 1,841 in the single-core test and 11,537 in the multi-core, which is a pretty far cry from the promised values. For reference, that is lower than Apple's A14 processors from 2020. A quick dive into Task Manager revealed that the device was running at 2.5GHz max, again, far from the promised 3.4GHz for the X1E-78100 model. This might explain why the processor fails so short of its promised performance envelope. Another guess is that Samsung is throttling down the CPU to achieve better battery life. The NPU, however, a big part of the Copilot+ PCs thing, was not tested. As for the battery life, the initial test showed solid performance, which can get you through an entire day, but Apple's M2-powered MacBook Air (referred to as 'MBA' by the Reddit user), which Microsoft tries so hard to beat, is still showing better results. Whatever the case, at this point, it is too early to grab pitchforks. Samsung and Qualcomm may release new firmware to address the problem with low CPU clocks. Finally, in games, cponica23 tested the laptop using Resident Evil Village, and the game managed to output 40 to 50 FPS with severe frame droops at 1080p Medium with FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) in Performance mode. Although Qualcomm said Snapdragon X chips should be capable of decent gaming, Copilot+ PCs clearly should not be on your list if you want something more than the simplest casual gaming. Microsoft will start shipping its Copilot+ PCs on June 18. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the lineup behaves in the hands of their owners. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Intel-powered Windows 11 computers are getting Copilot+ PC AI features this November
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
Today, Intel unveiled its newest mobile chips, the Core Ultra 200V series (codenamed Lunar Lake), which is packed with the company's latest innovations and powerful neural processing units (NPUs). Intel also confirmed Microsoft's earlier statement that computers with Intel's Lunar Lake and AMD's Strix Point processors will qualify for the new Copilot+ PC category. As of right now, all Copilot+ PCs are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Series processors. Built-in neural processing units enable additional AI-powered experiences, such as Recall, Windows Studio Effects, image generator in Paint and Photos, the new AutoSR upscaler, Live Captions, and more. Also, optimized applications can use neural processing units to accelerate various tasks. If you are not ready to jump to Windows on ARM but would like to try Copilot+ PC capabilities, thanks to Intel's and AMD's new chips, you will soon be able to do so without potential compatibility compromises. Intel says the new AI features will be available as a part of a free update somewhere in November, perhaps implying at the launch of Windows 11 version 24H2: Microsoft has yet to make it clear how computers with AMD and Intel processors will get new Copilot+ PC capabilities. Sadly, those features are not coming to existing computers with x86 processors from Intel and AMD. The first computers with Intel's new Core Ultra 200V processors will launch on September 24, and they are now available for preorder. Besides new Windows 11's AI features, devices powered by the 200V processor family boast Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, long "real-world battery life," faster graphics, lower temps, and quieter operation. You can learn more about those processors here. Source RIP Matrix | Farewell my friend Hope you enjoyed this news post. Microsoft, Qualcomm, and other partners launched the first Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon X processors in June. Although there are already plenty of solid discounts on first models, those computers remain $1,000+ devices, which puts them out of reach for many customers (the Surface Pro 11 starts at $999). The good news is that more affordable models are coming as soon as September 2024. Evan Blass, one of the most reliable sources of leaks, published a slide from Qualcomm that highlights features of the upcoming Copilot+ PCs with a more affordable Snapdragon SKU. The company recently added a new eight-core Snapdragon X Plus SKU to its lineup of ARM processors for Windows, and the upcoming IFA 2024 in Berlin will introduce sub-$1,000 ARM laptops. Therefore, look out for new Copilot+ PCs in different form factors with price tags of down to $800. Besides having notably fewer cores than more expensive models, buyers who want more affordable Copilot+ PCs will have to compromise graphics performance and CPU clocks. However, they will get the same 45 TOPS NPU for AI tasks, the same solid energy efficiency, support for up to three external displays at 4K 60 Hz, and all the features of Copilot+ PCs, such as Windows Studio Effects, Paint Cocreator, Windows Recall (this one is coming in October for Windows Insiders), and more. Vivaldi launches ARM-native version of its browser for Copilot+ PCs
Karlston posted a news in Software News
In addition to launching Vivaldi 6.9 with several productivity features and performance improvements, Vivaldi announced that its browser is now fully optimized for Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor. With the release, Vivaldi joined other ARM-native browsers for Windows, such as Chrome and Edge. Vivaldi for Windows on ARM delivers several key improvements over its emulated version. Here is what customers can expect: It is worth noting that those improvements are not only for the latest Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon X Elite or Plus processors—users with older Windows on ARM devices, such as the Surface Pro 9 5G or the Surface Pro X, will also notice better performance and efficiency. If you recently bought a new Copilot+ PC and you do not know whether Vivaldi or another application is running natively or emulated, launch Task Manager and switch to the Details tab. Native applications will have ARM64 in their Architecture column. You can download Vivaldi for Windows on ARM from the official website.
