  1. Microsoft, today, has released the newest build to the Windows 11 24H2 Beta channel for Insiders. The new build 26120.4230, under KB5058506, brings Quick machine recovery to the Settings app, Click-to-do improvements, and more. The full releases notes are included below: Below are the changes and improvements gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on to receive updates right away: Click to Do (Preview) The following changes and improvements are rolling out for Click to Do on Copilot+ PCs: For Windows Insiders using French or Spanish as their primary language on their PC, we’re beginning to roll out Rewrite and its options, including Refine, again for Click to Do. Click to Do can now perform intelligent text actions in German, Italian and Portuguese. Phone Link The following improvements for Phone Link and phone companion with the Start menu are rolling out to Windows Insiders across all channels: Instantly see notifications from your mobile device apps — grouped by app for easy catch-up, right from your Start menu. Mirror your Android device’s screen with a single click from your Start menu. Simply click on your device’s icon or access the option from the footer menu to quickly launch device screen mirroring. Your iPhone© memories are now accessible from the Start menu. Windows iCloud app users can see recently synced photos and quickly access their iCloud photos all within the Start menu. Lock screen We have temporarily disabled more widget options on the lock screen and support for lock screen widget personalization that began rolling out to all Windows Insiders in the previous Beta Channel flight to address some issues. We are planning to begin rolling this experience out again very shortly. Settings For Windows Insiders on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs with the new agent experience in Settings, we’ve made some improvements to make the search box at the top of Settings more centered. We’re rolling out a new Device Card for Settings Home for Windows Insiders signed in with their Microsoft account and in the U.S. It provides a quick snapshot of your PC’s key specs and usage, right where you need it. From the card, you can jump directly to the Settings > About page to see more detailed information about your PC. The Device Card may also help guide you toward discovering your next Windows PC – so you can shop with ease and confidence when you’re ready. NOTE: We’ve been previewing the Device Card with Windows Insiders with Settings Home on IT-managed PCs signed in with an Entra ID. Fixes These are the fixes gradually being rolled out in the Beta Channel with the toggle on. Improved Windows Search The following fixes are rolling out for improved Windows Search on Copilot+ PCs: Fixed an underlying crash causing semantic indexing to not work for some Insiders in the last couple flights. Start menu Fixed an issue causing Start menu to crash on launch for some Insiders in the latest flights. File Explorer Fixed an issue where if you opened the “…” menu in the File Explorer address bar to show the full list of folders for the current path, the dropdown might be cut off and the bottom of it inaccessible. Fixed an issue which was causing File Explorer to crash doing various actions in the latest flights, including when deleting files for some Insiders. Fixed an issue where the recommended section in File Explorer wasn’t expanding when using the right arrow key. Fixed an issue which could lead to duplicate access keys in the File Explorer context menu. The following are fixes for AI actions in File Explorer: Fixed the issue where the action result canvas displayed text from left to right for AI actions for Microsoft 365 files when your Windows display language is configured with a right-to-left language. Settings Fixed an underlying issue related to Bluetooth which could cause Settings or Quick Settings to crash on launch for some people. Fixed an issue with Quick Settings where if you clicked the top third of the buttons in the top row, it wouldn’t work. Other Fixed an issue with msftedit.dll which was causing apps like Sticky Notes and Dxdiag to crash in certain cases for people using Hebrew or Arabic display languages. These fixes are rolling out to everyone in the Beta Channel: General We have mitigated the issue where if Virtualization Based Security is enabled, applications dependent on virtualization, such as VMware Workstation, would lose the ability to run unless the “Windows Hypervisor Platform” Windows optional component is installed on the system. Finally there are some Known Issues you should be aware about, which are listed below: Known issues General After you do a PC reset under Settings > System > Recovery, your build version may incorrectly show as Build 26100 instead of Build 26120. This will not prevent you from getting future Beta Channel updates, which will resolve this issue. The option to reset your PC under Settings > System > Recovery will not work on this build. Xbox Controllers Some Insiders are experiencing an issue where using their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth is causing their PC to bugcheck. Here is how to resolve the issue. Open Device Manager by searching for it via the search box on your taskbar. Once Device Manager is open, click on “View” and then “Devices by Driver”. Find the driver named “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)” where the “XXX” will be a specific number on your PC. Right-click on that driver and click “Uninstall”. Click to Do (Preview) Windows Insiders on AMD or Intel™-powered Copilot+ PCs may experience long wait times on the first attempt to perform intelligent text actions in Click to Do after a new build or model update. Improved Windows Search [REMINDER] For improved Windows Search on Copilot+ PCs, it is recommended that you plug in your Copilot+ PC for the initial search indexing to get completed. You can check your search indexing status under Settings > Privacy & security > Searching Windows. Taskbar & System Tray In some cases, taskbar icons may appear small even though the setting to show smaller taskbar buttons is configured as “never”. File Explorer The following are known issues for AI actions in File Explorer: Narrator scan mode may not work properly in the action result canvas window for the Summarize AI action for Microsoft 365 files when reading bulleted lists. As a workaround, you can use Caps + Right key to navigate. Widgets Until we complete support for pinning in the new widgets board experience, pinning reverts you back to the previous experience Graphics [NEW] When connecting your PC to some older Dolby Vision displays, in some cases you might see severe discoloration. You can navigate to Settings > System > Display > HDR turn off “Use Dolby Vision mode” as a workaround to resolve the issue or disconnect the display. 2. Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 build for Insiders flighting the Beta Channel. The latest build, 26120.4161 KB5058515, is introducing some new features and improvements. First, the company is working on a new "Draft with Copilot in Word" Click to Do option. Essentially, Copilot will do the brainstorming for you when you are trying to quickly draft something up. Microsoft says it will begin rolling out "over the course of the coming weeks," but it will not be free and will require a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription. With the latest build, Microsoft is also improving Widgets, which will now have multiple dashboards. If you don't like them already, this change will not change your mind; however, those who find widgets helpful and useful will likely enjoy the new additional boards. In addition, more options for the lock screen are also rolling out so that users can have more control over what widgets appear there. The new migration app that we reported on recently is also landing with this build. You can read this article to learn some of the details. The activation dialog box for the Windows 11 product key is finally getting the Windows 11 visual style treatment to improve the consistency of the UI. Microsoft has made changes like these in the past, but they were not quite up to the overall aesthetics of the OS. Finally, a new "Open with" dialog is being tested that will recommend Microsoft Store apps when you try opening a file. Aside from these new feature additions, Microsoft is also making several subtle improvements across many of the other elements, such as an inconvenience with Account Manager sign-in, Task Manager CPU reading issues, and more. The known issues are given below: [General] After you do a PC reset under Settings > System > Recovery, your build version may incorrectly show as Build 26100 instead of Build 26120. This will not prevent you from getting future Beta Channel updates, which will resolve this issue. The option to reset your PC under Settings > System > Recovery will not work on this build. [NEW] Starting in the last flight, when Virtualization Based Security is enabled, applications dependent on virtualization, such as VMware Workstation, lose the ability to run unless the “Windows Hypervisor Platform” Windows optional component is installed on the system. Previously, installing the optional component was not required. [Xbox Controllers] Some Insiders are experiencing an issue where using their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth is causing their PC to bugcheck. As a workaround, you can use Caps + Right key to navigate. When your Windows display language is configured with a right-to-left language, the action result canvas displays text from left to right for AI actions for Microsoft 365 files. 3. Following the release of the latest Windows 11 Release Preview build, Microsoft is dropping two more updates for Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels. It is one of those occasions when two channels receive identical builds with the same changelog. Those testing Windows 11 in the Dev Channel can download build 26200.5603 (KB5058488), and for Beta Channel users, Microsoft released build 26120.4151 (KB5058486). These updates contain many new features, including AI actions in File Explorer, redesigned Windows Widgets, the new Advanced page in the Settings app, and more. One of the biggest changes in today's builds is AI actions in File Explorer (announced at Build 2025). Now, you can right-click a file, select AI actions, and pick one of the available options on your device, like Bing Visual Search, background blur, object erase, background removal, and more. For now, AI actions are only available for image files (JPG, JPEG, and PNG), but soon, Microsoft will bring AI actions support to Microsoft 365 files, allowing you to summarize files, create FAQs, and more. Next is the Advanced page in the Settings app, which replaces the old For Developers and brings some of the features previously available in the discontinued Dev Home app. You can learn more about it here. In the latest builds, the new page adds the ability to remove folder path limitations, enable virtual environments, and control various File Explorer features, such as GitHub integration. Windows Widgets are also getting some love with today's updates. Microsoft is experimenting with a redesigned experience that offers a more organized, personalized, and engaging feed, including stories curated by Copilot. Just keep in mind that some of the existing features, like widget pinning and the ability to turn off the feed, are not yet available in the redesigned variant. If you do not like the new variant, you can easily go back to the old one. Another important change in builds 26200.5603 and 26120.4151 is the so-called "User Interaction-Aware CPU Power Management." This OS-level change aims to reduce power consumption and improve battery life. Windows can detect user inactivity and apply various power-management policies to ensure it uses as little power as possible when idling. Once you are back at your PC, Windows will be able to spin everything back up. Finally, the Share UI, which recently received a built-in image editor, can now let you select the compression level for images when sharing them (0-100). New Windows 11 Dev and Beta builds are not only about new features. They pack some useful fixes as well (gradual rollout): [General] Fixed an issue where core Windows surfaces were not able to load in safe mode (File Explorer, Start menu, and others) after latest flights. [Start menu] Fixed an issue causing Start menu to be blank for some Insiders in the previous flight. [File Explorer] Fixed an issue where if File Explorer was maximized and you clicked the new tab button it would unmaximize the window. [Settings] Fixed an issue related to loading Bluetooth information which could lead to Settings and Quick Settings crashes. Fixed an issue where you couldn’t switch active hours from manually to automatic in Settings > Windows Update. Fixed an issue which was causing Settings > Personalization > Lock screen to crash for some Insiders. And here is the list of known issues and bugs: [General] After you do a PC reset under Settings > System > Recovery, your build version may incorrectly show as Build 26100 instead of Build 26200. This will not prevent you from getting future Beta Channel updates, which will resolve this issue. The option to reset your PC under Settings > System > Recovery will not work on this build. [Xbox Controllers] Some Insiders are experiencing an issue where using their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth is causing their PC to bugcheck. [Click to Do (Preview)] The following known issues will be fixed in future updates to Windows Insiders: Windows Insiders on AMD or Intel™-powered Copilot+ PCs may experience long wait times on the first attempt to perform intelligent text actions in Click to Do after a new build or model update. [Improved Windows Search] [REMINDER] For improved Windows Search on Copilot+ PCs, it is recommended that you plug in your Copilot+ PC for the initial search indexing to get completed. You can check your search indexing status under Settings > Privacy & security > Searching Windows. [Start menu] We’re investigating reports that clicking your profile picture isn’t opening the Account Manager for some Insiders after the last couple of flights. [File Explorer] [NEW] Narrator scan mode may not work properly in the action result canvas window for the Summarize AI action for Microsoft 365 files when reading bulleted lists. As a workaround, you can use Caps + Right key to navigate. [NEW] When your Windows display language is configured with a right-to-left language, the action result canvas displays text from left to right for AI actions for Microsoft 365 files. [Task Manager] After adding the new CPU Utility column, you may notice that System Idle Process always shows as 0. The CPU graphs in the Performance page are still using the old CPU utility calculations. [Narrator] We are investigating an issue where the richer image descriptions on your Copilot+ PC with Narrator do not work. [Voice Access] We are investigating an issue where support for more descriptive and flexible language on Copilot+ PCs does not work as expected. [Widgets] [NEW] Until we complete support for pinning in the new widgets board experience, pinning reverts you back to the previous experience. 8. In addition to the latest Dev build, Microsoft is rolling out a big update for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. Despite the clear channel hierarchy, build 26120.3872 (KB5055640) is a carbon copy of build 26200.5562 (KB5055642). 9. Windows enthusiasts and sharp-eyed insiders recently discovered that Microsoft was about to restore the calendar clock in Windows 11. This long-standing omission took Microsoft over three years to address, but it is finally here. The latest Windows 11 preview build from the Beta Channel has a hidden toggle that lets you turn on or off a clock in the calendar flyout. Image credit: @Phantomofearth on X A calendar flyout clock has been around in Windows since the dawn of dinosaurs. Still, in 2021, when Microsoft released Windows 11 with its reworked and half-baked taskbar, customers discovered that the tray calendar not only lost the ability to show their events but also its clock. Fast forward to 2025, and we finally have the calendar clock returning to the operating system. As you can see in the screenshot, Microsoft is also adding a toggle that lets you turn off the clock. Windows 10 never had this option before, and it is nice to see Microsoft adding more customization to the operating system. The update is hidden by default, but you can make it work using the ViVeTool app: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Run Command Prompt as Administrator. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id:42651849,48433719 and press Enter. Restart your computer and go to Settings > Date & Time. Confusingly, Microsoft decided to remove the calendar clock from Windows 10. Whether Windows 10 is running out of juice in its clock or not, it is very hard to find a reasonable explanation for this decision. Regardless, if you are upset about Windows 11's crippled taskbar calendar, at least one missing feature is finally on its way back to the operating system. More substantial changes in recent Windows 11 preview builds include a big rework for the Start menu, which now features a single view, lets you turn off the recommended section for good (properly turn it off, finally), app categories, and other changes. You can read more about it in our dedicated article. Source: @Phantomofearth on X Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 10. Microsoft is finishing this week with a fresh build for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. Build 22635.5240 (KB5055645) for Windows 11 version 23H2 is now available fr download with only three fixes (one for dark mode in File Explorer, one for Voice Access, and one for the incorrect storage size shown in the Settings app). 15. Windows 11's Start menu is one of the reasons many customers do not want to abandon Windows 10 and upgrade to Windows 11. However, it appears that Microsoft is finally ready to fix that with a seriously massive Start menu redesign. The just-released Windows 11 preview builds from the Dev and Beta Channels contain a big Start menu rework that fixes several complaints about its current implementation. Microsoft is finally ditching a two-section design in favor of a single scrollable view. Your pins and recommendations sit on top, while the All Apps list is right below them—simply start scrolling, and you are good to go browse all installed apps, no more clicking the "All" button. Another thing that will make a lot of Windows 11 users happy is the ability to turn off the "Recommended" section for good and keep only pinned apps and folders. This has been a big point of criticism during all these years, and Microsoft is finally adhering to customer feedback. The reworked Start menu was spotted by the eagle-eyed Windows Insider phantomofearth on X: You can turn on the new Start menu in the latest Dev and Beta builds by doing the following: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Run Command Prompt as Administrator and navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id:49402389,49221331,47205210,48433719 and press Enter. Restart your computer. Microsoft has not announced it yet, as it is probably not ready for prime time by the company's standards. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 21. The latest Windows 11 preview builds from the Dev and Beta channels delivered some welcome changes for different parts of the operating system, plus a few unannounced improvements. One of those improvements lies within the Settings app to help users better understand their PC hardware capabilities. Another change will help you keep the Start menu neat and organized. In Windows 11 builds 26120.3576 and 22635.5090, Microsoft implemented a new method to move apps around and create new folders. You can right-click a pinned app and select "Move left" or "Move right." Of course, you can always drag an app with your mouse or finger, but this method sometimes behaves a bit unreliable, so a simple move left and right command will help in this regard. In addition to moving apps around, the updated Start menu makes Start menu folders more apparent. In the Stable build, creating a folder in the Start menu requires dragging one app onto another. With the latest preview update, you can right-click an app and select the option to create a new folder or move the program to an existing one. Microsoft has not mentioned all those improvements in release notes, but you can force-enable them with the ViVeTool app, assuming you are already on build 26120.3576 or 22625.5090: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Launch Command Prompt as administrator. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id:50472543,50472600 and press Enter. Restart your computer. The new commands join other improvements that Microsoft is currently preparing for the Start menu. They include new layouts for the "All apps" list, the ability to launch Snap groups from the Start menu, and more.
